Other Useful Information
Here are a few practical tips to help you prepare for your sailing adventure:
Currency
The local currency in Greece is the Euro (€). Credit cards are widely accepted in towns, restaurants, and larger shops, but it’s a good idea to have some cash for small purchases, tips, or remote locations.
Banks & ATMs
Banks generally operate Monday to Friday, from around 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. ATMs are available in most towns, marinas, and tourist areas, making it easy to withdraw cash as needed.
Shops & Business Hours
Shops and small businesses typically open from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM, then close for an afternoon break, reopening around 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Hours can vary, especially in tourist areas, where many shops stay open longer during the summer season.
Post Office
Post offices, called ELTA, are open weekdays, usually from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. You can send postcards, letters, or small parcels from town locations.
Language
Greek is the official language, but English is widely spoken in marinas, tourist areas, restaurants, and shops.
Tipping
Tipping is appreciated but not mandatory. At restaurants, rounding up the bill or leaving around 5-10% is common.
